A Private Journey into Living Aviation History
Created for pilots, veterans, aircraft photographers, model builders, families, and military-history enthusiasts, this private 7-hour day from Los Angeles removes the stress of navigating traffic and parking at Chino Airport.
Your dedicated driver-guide provides door-to-door transportation to the Planes of Fame Air Museum, one of Southern California’s essential aviation destinations. The Chino collection includes nearly 100 aircraft, many restored to flying condition, with exhibits spanning the earliest years of powered flight through World War I, the Golden Age of aviation, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Jet Age.
Once at the museum, explore at your own pace and spend time with the eras, aircraft, and engineering stories that matter most to you. General museum admission is included in your custom quotation.
What You Can Experience
Historic Warbirds and Military Aircraft
World War II aircraft form the heart of the collection, supported by airplanes and artifacts representing earlier conflicts, postwar innovation, Korea, Vietnam, and experimental flight. The museum is known as a living collection because many of its historic aircraft are maintained for flight rather than preserved only as static objects.
Individual aircraft sometimes leave Chino for airshows, maintenance, filming, or other events. If seeing a specific aircraft is important, check the museum’s current flight and availability schedule before booking.
Restoration, Engineering, and Personal Stories
The visit goes beyond aircraft silhouettes. Displays interpret how airplanes were designed, built, maintained, and flown—and the experiences of the people who served around them. Aviation enthusiasts can examine changing airframe forms, propulsion, armament, cockpit design, and the rapid technical evolution produced by twentieth-century conflict.
B-17 Weekend Access
The museum currently advertises visitor access to its Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress on Saturdays and Sundays. Aircraft access is controlled entirely by the museum and may change because of operations, maintenance, weather, or special events, so it should be treated as a possible highlight rather than a guaranteed inclusion.
Optional Museum-Led Guided Tour
Planes of Fame offers its own guided tours, typically lasting 90 minutes to two hours, at no additional charge with admission. The museum requests reservations at least two weeks in advance. American Riviera Tours can coordinate your transportation schedule around a confirmed museum-led tour, but availability must be approved directly by the museum.
Designed Around Aviation Enthusiasts
Unlike a rigid coach excursion, this private experience lets your party decide how to use its museum time. Focus on World War II fighters and bombers, trace the transition into jet aviation, study restoration details, or allow extra time for photography and conversations with museum volunteers.
The standard 7-hour plan includes approximately 3½ hours at the museum plus a relaxed stop at Flo’s Airport Cafe after the visit. Flo’s is a local Chino Airport favorite for homemade biscuits and gravy, country-fried steak, hot cinnamon buns, and daily housemade fresh-baked pies. Lunch and bakery purchases are not included in the tour price and are paid directly to the cafe. Longer visits and special-event days can be quoted as custom itineraries.
